SELF SUFFICIENT CITY AT SEA

Ocean levels are rising around the globe, so rather than tethering our buildings to the sinking shoreline why not suit them for a life at sea? That’s the approach behind the Water-Scraper, a futuristic self-sufficient floating city. A special mention in this year’s eVolo Skyscraper Competition, the design expands the concept of a floating island into a full-fledged underwater skyscraper that harvests renewable energy and grows its own food. MORE CLEAN ENERGY FOR SWEDEN

Sweden recently announced the addition of 2,000 wind turbines to the country’s alternative energy regimen. The move, which would be rolled out over the next ten years would add 10 terawatt hours of clean energy per year to their grid. But is that enough for the Scandinavian country? Apparently not because they’ve also set a goal for themselves to have 50 percent (yes, half!) of their electricity come from renewable sources by 2020! Read the full article at Inhabitat.

America's most toxic cities? According to ENN.com Atlanta tops the list, along with Detroit, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, Baltimore and Portland. GRANT OUR WISH

The US Government is now accepting applications for the $3 billion dollars in grants that they are planning on handing over to those in the renewable energy business. How can you get in on the wealth? Your project must begin construction in 2009 or 2010. Check out the full article here.

VANITY, NOT SO FAIR

What do we look forward to every Spring from magazine giant, Vanity Fair? The Green Issue, of course! Well, it looks like one of our favorite reads is no longer. The magazine decided not to print a 4th consecutive green issue due to environmental issues having "become integral to the news agenda."
